Door to Rack Take II

This door is now a coat rack

 It was originally white and I painted it with grey and tan plus a dark wax finsih

 Just prop it up in any space - entry, bathroom, bedroom closet.. it's so versatile and great for rented spaces since it doesn't attach to the wall!

The lowest hook is perfect if you have a little one.

  However there's a good chance your kids stuff will still get thrown on the floor right next to it.

From Crap to Cute

I must say, I'm proud of myself for taking so many "before" pictures of all my recent projects. 

It does make it easier though, when I get a group of items at once.

Look at all that broken junk. Does it make you excited just thinking about the possibilities of it all? No?

 How about if it were all FREE broken junk? 

Still not so much, huh?

Well, what if this emerged from the pile...

Now you see a little of what was happening in my head when I was given all that junk.

For one, broken easel = fun coat/accesories rack

I used hooks I had on hand. The colored ones are from world market.

I can see scarves or necklaces hanging from here.

I painted the whole thing light blue and distressed it.

So before tossing whatever broken junk is in your garage (or already next to someone's garbage can) try to think of another use for it!

Re-Purpose. Recycle. Re-Use.

Kitchen Details

When I revealed my Kitchen yesterday I promised details, so here we go. 

Let's just start with my favorite GW find (that's Good Will not George Washington for you non addicts out there)

Aqua Dog bowls. Seriously. So me. Or so my dogs?  Where did they originally come from, I have no clue, but they are fantastic. Since I have two dogs I put their food in these and keep their mismatched water bowls hidden. 

The curtains are from IKEA. I don't think they still carry them, but don't quote me on that. 

The metal urn(?) came from a thrift store for a couple dollars and the blue vintage mason jar is full of silverware from my grandparents.

The wood shelf I painted aqua and lined with gray wood grain wrapping paper. I like personal touches in every room, so it became a good place for small framed photos.

This area is full of vintage and thrifty finds.

The vintage scale is from ETSY. You can find them in most antique shops as well but this one was in perfect condition (the pointer was intact when I bought it. It made it 60 years but broke after a week in my house.. go figure.)

The yellow metal basket is my newest addition. GW. 99cents. Another vintage mason jar (yard sale I think) and the tray has migrated through out my house. More about it here.

These mugs are the closest thing to a collection I've developed. 

There used to be a sign at my work that said "I drink coffee in the morning because I need it, and wine in the evening because I deserve it." Change the wine to beer and on many days it's perfect for me.

This little dish caddy was for sale at my shop but it was there for several months without selling, so I brought it home. I didn't think I would like it so much but I do! It was black before I painted it.

Now back to painting furniture..I just finished a couple client pieces that I hope to share soon.

Vintage Door and Vintage.. sweatshirt?

Back in September I mentioned that I had painted some pieces for the interior design team "Project Style" for a design house. Well here is one of the projects I helped with.

BEFORE:

The ladies chose the colors and had me paint and distress the door. They then added some hooks to use it as a coat rack.

AFTER:

Fun huh?

And because it's super bowl Sunday, I thought I'd share the "vintage" 49ers shirt I'm rockin' ha!

China Cabinet turned Hutch

I bought this 1940's china cabinet last week at a great price, because as you can see there is no glass in the left door and no bottom right door all together.

 

It didn't take me long to come up with a solution to it's problems though.

yes, that's my shadow taking a phone pic, better than nothing, sorry!

 

 

 

 If the only problem was the missing glass, I would have kept the doors and either replaced the glass or put chicken wire or fabric in them.

 But the challenge was the missing bottom door.

 I couldn't make a new one because it is a rounded door (and I have no idea how to do that.)
So I had to remove the existing one and cover it some other way -
fabric seemed to be the only logical option.

I've seen so many "no sew" tutorials before, I figured I could do that.
((I have never tried to learn to use a sewing machine, and still don't really want to))

Then I came up with something even better than "no sew" - my friend Christen from "struttin your buttons"! For a steal, she made the skirt for me :)
By adding the fabric, it really lost the china cabinet feel, which is why I went with the open shelves on top.

 Now it is perfect for a Kitchen, or an informal Dining Room.

 

 

It's headed to the Flea tomorrow (Saturday)

This light would be great for a boys room, office or playroom.

I would even put one in my Living Room if I had the perfect spot.

 

 

 

and now back to painting.. it's 65 degrees out 6 days before Christmas.. If I can't have a white Christmas I'll take a warm one. I like your style mother nature.
