Furntiure for Etsy

I'm working hard to stock my ETSY shop with furniture. So far I have this awesome side chair.

I painted it a blue, distressed it and put a dark finish on it. The first two pictures show the color more accurately but this last picture shows how fabulous the arms are.

I will also be adding this cute side table this week.

The top is stained ebony and the rest is painted a bright aqua and lightly distressed.

After I painted the table I may or may not of painted a door in my house the same color.

Goodness, I love it.

New Dresser and Fun Finds

I am so happy with this dresser. I painted it the same aqua as my door and the etsy table that I showed you yesterday. The only difference is the finish, that darkened it up.

The same day I found this dresser I found two things that I'm keeping :)

I really don't keep many things because that would be just shopping not working. But this large woven storage bin is just too cool, and I need it.

It is going to live in my daughters room and house some of her toys.

I also found this original acrylic on canvas.  The colors are great for my Living Room.

Have you kept any finds when shopping for work lately?

The Rug

I've been trying to decide what kind of area rug I want for my Living Room.

I like the over-dyed rugs that I'm seeing a lot lately

I really wanted some more yellow in the room so I looked at yellow over dyed rugs and found a cheap one on overstock.com
But then I read a review that said the yellow in person looked like pet stains, if you know what I mean. And since I have two dogs, I really don't want anything resembling that.
I still really like the rug in the picture but I just don't want to risk it. It comes in other colors and sizes, so I'm definitely keeping in mind for a different room in my house in the future.

The biggest challenge was finding a rug I like in my price range. Overstock in particular had a few other yellow ones that I liked, but were just too much money for me.

I seriously considered this one, but realized I didn't want anymore ikat.

So after more searching, I ended up on the Urban Outfitters website.

I'm almost positive I've never shopped there in my life. I don't know why, because they have a bunch of cute stuff.
That's where I found the "magical thinking bazaar rug"

I love the color combo in this rug. Only problem, my coffee table is blue, and I definitely don't want it getting lost in the blues of the rug.
Luckily, the "magical thinking bazaar rug" comes in other colors.

The pink looks pretty but I still want some yellow...
Ask and you shall receive

Agua, Dark Pink, Brown, Orange and Yellow.
SOLD!

I'm expecting it to arrive next week, so I have to go find a non-slip rug pad before then.

I hope everyone is having a safe and fun Memorial Day weekend. Just don't forget what the Holiday is really about

Girls Room Ideas

Apparently I don't like to complete one project before moving on to the next, so here is what is going on in my head right now.

Re-doing my daughters room. Not just re-doing it, but switching it out with another room in my house completely.

Here is what I am thinking for the color scheme (and fyi she approves)
Gray and Pink.

She says she wants a princess room.. she's 4, go figure. And since I lean more towards eclectic, modern and bold prints, I'm going to try very hard to not make it what I want.

It can be glamerous and princess like, but more eclectic than the picture above (not sure the source, if anyone knows please share!)

Here's my TO DO list:

~Clear out what is currently the "play room"
~Paint walls light pink
~Find a dresser and paint it
~Hang lights
~Install chandelier
~Buy Rug
~Get some Toy organization
~Find and paint Nightstand (s?)
~Hang Mirror and other wall decor
~Find new play table and chairs
~Get new curtains

I've made a ton of progress on clearing out the play room, and the other day I found (and refinished) a dresser that will work great.

Here it is BEFORE

And AFTER

The drawers are very narrow so I think it would have been a hard sell if it wasn't intended for a child.

I'm happy with how it came out. And it has become a necessity since her current dresser is literally falling apart (it's from when she was born and was purchased from babies r us = not real wood, just served its purpose for the time being.)

The fun thing is, what is currently her bedroom will become my office. So many ideas, so many things I need, so little money to spend.

Gallery Wall

So here's my version. But despite how it may look, it was not done without thought or personalization.

First I gathered inspiration.

BHG

Decorate - amazon.com
Then I shopped my house.

With my gathered goods, I created a layout on the floor. I arranged, and re-arranged, added and removed until I came up with a layout that I liked.
I then snapped a shot of it with my cellphone to refer back to it.

The yellow clock, blue print picture and white frame were all hanging in my Living Room already, just in different places.

The clock is from Hobby Lobby on clearance a few months ago. The blue print picture and frame are from thrift stores - I just sprayed the frame white.
The Monet print was given to me with someones yard sale left overs.

This shadow box I put together right after I had my daughter. It is the onesie/pajamas she wore in the hospital with the card the nurse filled out and her wrist band. So special to me.

This little canvas I found at Good Will and the quote couldn't get any more motivational for me.
"Be determined. Achieve. Live the life you imagined."

Paper silhouette I made of, who else? my daughter. In a painted Good Will frame of course.

Sketch of a gross naked guy Figure Study I did in Drawing II circa 2005
Frame is from.. wait for it... Good Will.

So there you have it. Most of these pieces have a personal story to them and since it is my home, that's what's important to me.

Living Room Progress

Yesterday, I previewed the progress I've made on my Living Room.

To be honest, the progress is happening slowly. Mostly because I  have no money to put into it. So I wait for deals and the perfect finds, and it's coming along.

Here is the MLS listing "BEFORE"

BEFORE
I kind of wish the previous home owner left one (or both) of the couches.

Here it is a month after we bought it (2011)

BEFORE

BEFORE
And here it is today: (re-painted, new floors and new furniture and decor)

That's Lola on the couch.

And to be fair, here is Kingston.

Still on my list to complete this Room:

~Small area rug (something with yellow maybe?)

~New ceiling light. I really want a chandelier, but I live in the South and don't like to run the air much, so a ceiling fan is pretty important.

~Book shelf to go on the right of the fire place

~Small side table to go next to one of the chairs

I'll post more about individual pieces like the gallery wall.
I've already posted about the "tv cabinet," the tray on the coffee table and the fireplace screen
